Volunteers put the Capital "C" in The Caring Place
Volunteers are a vital part of The Caring Place programs. Young, old and in-between, they bring a variety of interests and skills to The Caring Place. They share a commitment to The Caring Place mission and the deep sense of satisfaction they derive from knowing that they are making a difference in the lives of others. What do our volunteers do?
Drive and deliver for the Meals-On-Wheels program
Help with activities - such as making it possible for sight-impaired participants to play card games or do crafts
Serve lunch and snacks and do clean-up tasks in the kitchen
Volunteers play an essential role on field trips like this picnic to Frame Park.
Go on field trips - the assistance of volunteers is essential so that there is one-on-one help on trips to the mall or the zoo or the art museum
Most important, they spend quality time with participants
Board of Directors members are volunteers
Mazy the Standard Poodle has been a volunteer two afternoons a week since she was a puppy. Her predecessor, Pippins, was well known for her work at the Bake Sale.

The Caring Place was born in the spirit of stewardship and volunteerism. In 1986, the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church wanted to be part of the climate of caring developing in downtown Waukesha. They saw the services being offered at St. Joseph's Medical Clinic, Hebron House, and the Woman's Center. A task force was formed to study ways of becoming part of that community of service.
After much study, the task force set its mission as the development of an adult day care facility, dedicated to enriching the lives of the frail elderly and providing them with needed health and social services while giving their caregivers support and respite. In 1986, the concept of adult day care was quite new.
The Caring Place opened in 1988 with two participants, one staff member and 21 volunteers. Today, The Caring Place is a non-profit corporation with its Board of Directors, staff and volunteers drawn from across the Waukesha County community and independent of First Presbyterian. The Waukesha community, however, must be grateful to the congregation of First Presbyterian for their vision and their stewardship, and for the spirit of caring which infuses everything that happens at The Caring Place.
Every April, The Caring Place, Inc. volunteers are treated to breakfast by the Board of Directors, themselves volunteers.
